Prime Minister Joseph Muscat is suing Matthew Caruana Galizia over a Facebook post in which he described how it is possible to launder kickbacks from the sale of passports.
The post was published on 10 May 2017 and Caruana Galizia was sued for defamation on the same day.
In the Facebook post entitled ‘A passport selling and money laundering story’ the son of murdered journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia quoted an email sent to Mossack Fonseca by Nexia BT accountant Karl Cini in 2015.
Writing on his Facebook page, Caruana Galizia reposted the relevant part of the court filing and asked “When a prime minister sues you over a Facebook post, is that a sign that you’re getting closer to the truth, or further away from it?”
