Amnesty International Italy delivered over 45,000 signatures to the Malta ambassador in Italy, Vanessa Frazier, demanding justice for Daphne Caruana Galizia.

The signatures were collected as the result of an international campaign ‘Write for Rights 2018’ by the human rights organisation calling for the masterminds who commissioned the assassination to be brought to justice.

The Maltese journalist was brutally killed in a car bomb a few metres away from her home on 16 October, 2017. Three known criminals were arrested for committing the attack three months after her death, yet the trial has not even started.

Amnesty said it was renewing the hope that the Maltese authorities will do everything possible to ensure that, through a fair trial, the perpetrators and the masterminds of the murder are identified and convicted.

The international organisation supported the call for a public inquiry into whether her death could have been prevented. Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has repeatedly refused this demand, despite obligations under international law.
