Exhibition: speaking to Daphne

A series of interview-portraits with the subjects sending a message to murdered journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia is the highlight of an exhibition that will be launched this evening at 6.30pm at Argotti Gardens as part of the events marking the one-year anniversary of her assassination.

Written on pieces of paper, the messages convey the hurt, loss, desperation and anger at the murder of Caruana Galizia, who died on October 16, 2017, in a car bomb just a few metres away from her home.

The series called “What Would You Tell Daphne?” was created by French photographer Candice Nechitch and French author and actor Cecile Calvet, who has lived in Malta for the past two years.

They reached out to people in Malta and asked them to show their faces and voice their words to honour Caruana Galizia’s memory and the result can be seen in the portraits that will be on show at Floriana’s Argotti Gardens.

The project came about through the help of an anonymous French benefactor. Justine Balzan Demajo is the curator of exhibition and Il-Kenniesa’s Tina Urso helped with the set up of event.

The exhibition is one of a series of events organised by various activists and NGOs to commemorate Caruana Galizia’s murder while renewing the calls for truth and justice.
