Six vigils were held today around Europe to mark six months since the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
The first vigil was held at the heart of the European Union, Brussels and other vigils were held in Edinburgh, London, Berlin, Amsterdam and Dresden. The vigils were characterised by calls of ‘Justice for Daphne’ and ‘No impunity’.
Two of Caruana Galizia’s three sons, Matthew and Paul, joined the vigil outside Malta House in London where he said “today is like a second funeral. but it is uplifting to see you here.”

The vigils were organised by Il-Kenniesa in collaboration with a number of activists and organisations, including Reporters Without Borders, Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), Index on Censorship, PEN International and ARTICLE 19.

Later today, a vigil organised by RSF (USA) and the Committee to Protect Journalists will be held outside the Maltese embassy in Washington DC.

These vigils were held in conjunction with a number of events in Valletta, Malta which started with a mass celebrated by Archbishop Charles Scicluna at 5pm. This will be followed by a vigil at Great Siege Square at 7pm.
