Daphne Caruana Galizia memorial removed

All traces of the memorial dedicated to journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia at the Great Siege monument in front of the law courts in Valletta were removed.

This is the latest provocation in recent weeks in which the photo of the journalist assassinated on 16 October was repeatedly removed. At one point, photos of former Labour Prime Minister Dom Mintoff, as well as photos of Karin Grech and Raymond Caruana were placed next to hers.

On Friday, citizens gathered at the memorial to mark 10 years since Caruana Galizia launched her blog ‘Running Commentary’. Reporters without Borders’ UK Bureau Director Rebecca Vincent was present to pay tribute to the journalist.

Labour MPs have repeatedly called for the memorial’s removal. It was set up and maintained by citizens before the law courts as reminder that justice has not been served.

The memorial on Friday 2 March, the day marking 10 years since Daphne Caruana Galizia launched her blog ‘Running Commentary’.
