WORDS is a mettle-themed art exhibition by renowned Scandinavian artist Marie Louise Kold with works made from etched and patinated copper, bronze and brass that will open on 15 November at Studio 87 in Valletta.
Kold, the artist who created the portrait of assassinated journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia that sits at a press room at the European Parliament, has donated a number of her works to be sold at the exhibition to support investigative journalism by The Shift.
She has also created three new pieces for this exhibition that will be auctioned. Their theme is words. “Precious, powerful, fragile, inspiring, uninhibited, hard-hitting words and their immeasurable importance,” Kold says.
One of the original pieces created for The Shift by Marie Louise Kold that will be auctioned.
Kold has worked with metals since 1997. She etches and patinates copper, bronze and brass, creating wall-hung works and sculptures that are in private collections all over the world, including the Royal Swedish Court.
She lived and worked in Malta for seven years. Her love of words goes far beyond the aesthetic. She is passionate about freedom of expression, reflected in her generous support of independent journalism by The Shift.
The exhibition ‘WORDS’ is a continuation of Kold using her art “to join the Maltese who show their true mettle in their roar for justice, for freedom of expression and for the truth”.
Another of Marie Louise Kold’s works, Blossoming Words, can be seen at the exhibition at Studio 87.
The opening is on 15 November at 7pm at Studio 87 in Valletta. Thanks also go to Justine Balzan Demajo for hosting this exhibition at her unique and independent art space that fits this event so perfectly.
