Activists have hit back at attempts to silence calls for justice for the assassinaton of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia by putting the memorial created by citizens in her name on the world map.
The memorial dedicated to Caruana Galizia at the Great Siege monument opposite the law courts in the country’s capital, Valletta, is now identified on Google Maps. The move occurred after the latest attempt to remove the memorial on Monday.
The flowers and candles representing calls for justice were removed in the dead of night after a vigil was held on Friday marking 10 years since the launch of Caruana Galizia’s blog ‘Running Commentary’.
More flowers and candles were placed on the memorial to revive its meaning on the same day the memorial was cleared. Keeping it alive has become an act of resistance.
