Daphne Caruana Galizia’s memorial in Valletta blocked off

The temporary memorial to murdered journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in Valletta was cordoned off on Sunday.

Earlier, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat called on his party faithful to attend a mass meeting being organised on 1 May in reply to the revelations on his right-hand men Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi by the Daphne Project.

This prompted a spontaneous protest outside the Prime Minister’s office at Castille by Il-Kenniesa and other activists.

The makeshift memorial to Daphne Caruana Galizia has been vandalised and cleared of flowers and tributes countless times only for activists and citizens to replace the flowers and candles each time these are removed.

Labour figures, including MPs, have repeatedly called for the removal of the memorial set up and maintained by citizens before the law courts as a reminder that justice has not been served.

Now the memorial has been surrounded by barricades blocking off access to everyone.

On Sunday, Il-Kenniesa created a live demonstration of the game ‘Guess Who?’ outside the office of the Prime Minister Joseph Muscat who earlier urged Labour supporters to attend May Day celebrations, in response to Daphne Project revelations which came to light over the past days.

Il-Kenniesa told The Shift News that there are “many unanswered questions lingering, many politicians who continue to run this country with complete impunity.”

Following Friday’s demonstration in London where Prime Minister Joseph Muscat was welcomed by shouts of ‘shame on you’ as he made his way to an event organised by the concessionaires of Malta’s cash-for passport programme Henley and Partners, activist Tina Urso has been targeted by Labour supporters on social media.

Labour supporters are spreading images of Urso carrying her ID card and address and accusing her of hating Labour “and anything Maltese.”

In comments to The Shift News, Urso said “Why are Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri still in government? Why haven’t the police investigated any politician that Daphne Caruana Galizia wrote about? Why wasn’t Neville Gafa, a political appointee, brought in for questioning, after he stalked Daphne less than 24 hours before her assassination? Why isn’t Chris Cardona being questioned too? Also, who commissioned Daphne’s murder?”
