The data Facebook has on you is just a click away

Facebook and Google have data about your location, phone calls and messages you have sent and received

By now you surely know about Cambridge Analytica, the shadowy, data analysis firm that reportedly siphoned off information belonging to 50 million Facebook users and secretly used them to build a powerful software programme to predict and influence voters in the 2016 US presidential election.

If you were wondering what kind of data Facebook has on you, its just a click away. Facebook has a timeline of every post and comment you wrote from the very first day you started using it. It has every file you’ve sent or received.

Mine was roughly 450MB, and the amount of data Facebook stores goes from your videos and photos to lists of your friends and contacts. This includes phone numbers and emails of persons who are not on Facebook. It also has a log of all your calls and MSMs.

The information Facebook and Google store about you is staggering. Facebook stores lists of what it thinks you might be interested in based off the things you’ve liked, searched or posted.

Facebook has a list of everyone you’ve previously said you were in a relationship with and a list of ad categories it has associated with your account.

It also stores data about every time you have logged in to Facebook, from where and on which device. And there’s more.

Facebook announced that in the coming weeks it will expand the data it allows users to download to include likes, reactions, search history, and location history.

This will also a new tool called Access Your Information, which allows users to more easily view and delete old posts, reactions, comments, and search history.

Google also stores endless information about you, from your location (if you have location tracking turned on) to all of your YouTube history.
